Louise de la Vallière by Alexandre Dumas is the third novel in his d’Artagnan Romances, following The Three Musketeers and Twenty Years After. The story continues the adventures of d’Artagnan and the remaining musketeers—Athos, Porthos, and Aramis—against the backdrop of the French court under King Louis XIV.

The novel primarily focuses on the love affair between the king and Louise de la Vallière, a lady-in-waiting to Queen Maria Theresa. Despite being a romantic figure, Louise is caught in a web of court intrigue, manipulation, and betrayal as the King’s relationship with her causes scandal and tension within the royal court. Meanwhile, the musketeers find themselves drawn into these courtly schemes, testing their loyalty and honor.
