This novel by Miriam Michelson tells the story of Sally Lord, a young woman who leaves her small town in the Midwest to seek her fortune in the big city of San Francisco. There, she meets Bishop Wycliffe, a charismatic and kind-hearted man who takes her under his wing and offers her a job as his secretary. Sally soon finds herself falling in love with the Bishop, but their relationship is complicated by his position in the church and his vow of celibacy. Meanwhile, Sally becomes embroiled in a mystery involving a missing heirloom and a shadowy figure from her past.
